ABOUT THE GALLERY

Mémoire de l’Avenir is a non-profit organization that uses the arts and cultural heritage as a means of improving society. It works through four interconnected areas: exhibitions, educational actions, mediation and research, and the Humanities, Arts and Society project, created with UNESCO-MOST and CIPSH.

Its contemporary art space is located in a popular area of Belleville, at the heart of a multicultural neighborhood in Paris. It is a platform of expression for artists and scholars who develop social and creative approaches and are actively engaged in civil society, hosting exhibitions, talks, debates and performances on urgent topics of contemporary society. A non-political, non-religious organization guided by its ethical charter, Mémoire de l’Avenir uses arts and culture as tools for dialogue and understanding.

ABOUT THE CURATOR

Margalit Berriet

Margalit Berriet is a research artist and curator, and the founder and director of Mémoire de l’Avenir and Humanities, Arts and Society (MDA-HAS). Committed to the fight against discrimination, and convinced that art and culture can bring a better knowledge of oneself and others, she founded Mémoire de l’Avenir in 2003. Born in Israel/Palestine to parents who arrived there as refugees after World War II, she has worked in painting, drawing, screen images, printmaking and photography.

Berriet collaborates with UNESCO-MOST and CIPSH, as well as with the Académie de Paris, the Région Île-de-France and many other public and private institutions. She developed the methodology behind Mémoire de l’Avenir’s art and dialogue workshops, which take an intuitive approach to creativity grounded in the respectful inclusion of all cultures and identities.
