Moonth, Teared Apart, 2020-2022. Digital monoprint on aluminum, 24 x 24 inches. Edition of one.
Expressionist artists tried to go beyond figurative art by addressing the chaos of the physical world. Could they dream of creating their worlds, changing their physics, going through the limitations of real light and color?
Deprived of physical limitations, the digital realm provides unlimited possibilities. Color and light draw shapes. Abstract movement creates a composition and the the absence of noticeable images opens up freedom of interpretation.
Moonth is an alias of Michael Mesiats, a new media artist based in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. In his artworks, organic forms blend with futuristic digital images by creating immersive worlds. Moonth explores generative graphics, motion sensors capture, and artistic data interpretation. A significant part of his work is the interaction between music, dance, and digital media. His work has been exhibited at Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, New York, Berlin and elsewhere, both online and offline.
