Mary Boochever, Treatments I – XI, 2003, Paper, ink, Eleven 10 X 8, 2/3. $5,500.

This is a series of prints inspired by the book Light, Darkness and Colour in Painting Therapy by Liane Collot D’Herbois.  The book gives very detailed written descriptions of ways of handling specific colors to effect a transformation in the patient. I like the play with the word “Treatment” which also has an art context. It seems to me that using the computer to create these images is closer to the intent of the book as it deals with veils (layers) of darkness in front of the light.

In developing her own color language, Mary Boochever has explored sources as diverse as the Kabala and Goethe’s Color Theory.  Her paintings, sculptures and installations draw the viewer into the immediacy of the color experience.
