“You’re a Techspressionist when you say you are”.

Techspressionism is different from other art movements because membership is based on self-identification. Anyone is free to call themselves a Techspressionist, use the hashtag on their social media posts, and attend our Salons and co-working sessions. There are no dues or fees for membership; you are a Techspressionist when you say you are.  However, we also maintain the Techspressionist Visual Artist Index, which is a curated selection of artists using technology. There are no dues or fees to be listed in the index either, but it is invite-only.  You can imagine Techspressionism as an onion, with multiple layers. All of the artists out there using the hashtag #techspressionism on social media (80k posts and counting on Instagram) are helping to propagate the meme, and thus represent the movement, while the community is comprised of the core group of artists who regularly attend our Salons.

How Do I Join The Movement?

STEP ONE // GET ON THE LIST

Sign up below to receive invites to our monthly Techspressionist Salons on Zoom, where you can meet other artists and present your work in recorded sessions. List members will also receive notifications about upcoming shows, newly-published artist interviews and open calls. Your information will not be shared with any third parties and you can unsubscribe at any time.

STEP TWO // USE THE HASHTAG

If you use technology to express yourself, add the hashtag #techspressionism when you post your artwork to social media to become visible to our curators. If you tag us @techspressionism, this will allow us to easily share your work with our followers. The hashtag is the primary means of how Techspressionism has spread to over 45 countries since the artist group was formed in 2020. The hashtag is the primary method of how artists are discovered for our Artist Index.  Many thanks to our community Instagram curator Renata Janiszewska for her generous contribution of time and energy to this project. Follow Techspressionism’s official accounts on Instagram and X and join Techspressionists Facebook Group to further share your artwork, ideas and events with the community.

STEP THREE // ATTEND A SALON

Now that you’ve gotten on the list and used the hashtag, it’s time to get to know the community of artists that makes our group so special!  Techspressionist Salons are our core community-building activity. They are a time and place in cyberspace where artists gather once a month to hang out, share their work and discuss matters relating to art, philosophy, and technology. We meet on Zoom on the first Thursday of every month at noon Eastern Time.

These meetups were conceived as a modern counterpart to the Surrealist salons of the 1920’s, in which artists could meet informally to socialize and discuss ideas. Techspressionism is a 100% volunteer-based international artist community. Salons are moderated by a rotating panel of artist volunteers. After the recording ends, artists are welcome to hang out for the afterparty (aka advisory board meeting), in which the topic for the next Salon is decided upon, and other community-related ideas are discussed. Register to attend the next Salon here.

That’s It!
